COMPETITION RULES 1) Play is by the 'old rules', with these clarifications: 2) BREAK: Break of the first game is decided by a spin of a coin. The winner (of the coin-spin) decides who breaks first (and provides the coin). Thereafter, the challenger (loser) pays for the game and breaks. His opponent (winner) 'racks' the balls. 3) A solid or stiped ball sunk on the break becomes the group (solid or striped) of balls to be played by the 'breaker'; and the breaker has a another shot. 4) OPEN TABLE: IF both a coloured AND solid are sunk on the break the table remains 'open' and the visiting player has a another shot. 5) IF the white is sunk (or a ball leaves the table) while the table is open, this is not a foul - the table remains open and the next player may play any ball. 6) FOUL: Missing your ball, playing your opponents ball or playing the black ball (first), sinking the white, or ANY ball leaving the table, is a 'foul' which results in 2 shots (visits) to your opponent. Any ball leaving the table is placed on the centre spot, where the black is placed at the break. The white ball leaving the table or being potted, may be placed anywhere behind the black line. Any time the black is sunk prematurely (before the player has sunk all his other balls) results in immediate forfeiture of the game. The number of balls remaining on the table of the defaulter are counted for the winner. The remaining balls of the winner, are ignored (not counted). Sinking the Black on the break is NOT regarded as a win. The balls are re-racked and the game re-started - no penalty is incurred. 7) Two shots 'carry', which means that after a foul, your opponent must play two shots without sinking a ball, before you get to visit the table again ... unless your opponent fouls, in which case your opponent loses any remaining shots and you then have 2 shots. 8) 'Touch ball' is of no consequence - you may play a touching ball, if it is your own ball. 9) BLACK: A player only ever has one shot on the black, during a visit to the table. 10) Players are permitted a 2 minute break between games of a match; or longer by agreement. 11) The rules may not be debated or challenged during competition. Rules must be debated and amended by (majority) agreement, in group.
